Our history

Carthusia is an Italian Love Story

A story where the inseparable link to a unique land in the world is intertwined with the legend of the monks of the Certosa di Capri.

The history of the Perfumes of Capri, handed down over the centuries, from the times of Queen Giovanna d’Angiò until today, a time in which Carthusia is kept with great care and attention by the Ruocco family, Caprese for generations and always in love with their land.

The Laboratory

Today the smallest fragrance laboratory in the world is located exactly a few steps from the Gardens of Augustus and Carthusia has been aiming for over 20 years to be the maximum expression of Made in Italy in the niche perfume sector.

Tradition and Olfactory Culture

The Carthusia Brand is synonymous with tradition and olfactory culture and wants to remain faithful to the values that characterized it at the time of its foundation.

As then, all stages of production are carried out by hand, guaranteeing the observance of natural methods and the precious care of craftsmanship.

Italian Style

At the same time, the entrepreneurial vision is clear and ambitious: to tell the world about the magic of the Island of Capri, where the Mediterranean is the master of time and Nature pampers the Capri people with its pristine scents.

Choosing a Carthusia fragrance means identifying with the sobriety of Italian style, where the continuous search for perfection becomes the perpetual engine that aims to compose unique essences.

The Nature of Capri

The olfactory experience that Carthusia wants to offer to the world enhances the Earth from which everything is born.

Each element part of our fragrances derives from the Caprese nature and is used with the aim of creating unforgettable olfactory accords.

The Cultural Heritage

Protecting the cultural and natural heritage of a territory of which we are simple custodians, handing down the love for our land and teaching future generations the importance of our roots, will constitute the deepest meaning of the Carthusia project in the years to come.

“For the Capresi of our generation, the Gardens of Augustus represented everything. The first kiss, the first declaration of love… Living in that context of flowers was a delight”
Silvio Ruocco - Chairman of Carthusia.
